MAAFPCWDA Training Update

With the recent launch of Addressing Disparities and Disproportionality: MAAFPCWDA (CWTA X224), the Training Academy has seen a significant increase in Training Portal requests and concerns about classes filling quickly. Our Training Delivery Team is busy creating schedules and hiring new trainers, and our LMS (Learning Management System) Team is hard at work building new courses for registration. Addressing Disparities and Disproportionality: MAAFPCWDA (CWTA X224)

As of this mailing, we have opened 19 offerings of this course for registration (at 25 learners per course equaling 475 learners), and we will continue to schedule more until all county agency child protection workers and their supervisors complete this training. Refresher MI Coaching Circle Non-Credit Learning Opportunities
This course allows learners to hone and strengthen their existing Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills with feedback and support from an MI trainer. No credits or CUEs are offered for this learning opportunity.

Mandated Reporter Training

This training is available for Minnesota professionals identified by law who must make a report if they know or have reason to believe that child maltreatment has occurred. This training takes approximately 60 minutes. We also offer an option for agencies to lead their own group training. Visit our Mandated Reporter Training page to learn more.

New Worker Training

All new child protection workers should plan to take the following courses. Supervisors should assign these courses AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after the new worker's start date to ensure workers complete prerequisites and can enroll in their preferred Foundations cohort. ICWA/MIFPA Foundations (TTCP x101.C)

This training is brought to you by the Tribal Training and Certification Partnership (TTCP). You must complete an ICWA/MIFPA 2-Day Training before you can register for New Worker Foundations (CWTA X113).

This training consists of self-paced, instructor-led (both in-person and virtual), and simulation or virtual reality opportunities.

Foster Parent Training

Until that contract is signed, there will be a delay in scheduling new cohorts of Foster Parent Pre-Service Training. Once the contract is signed, we will contact licensors directly with training information. We appreciate your patience. 

Supervisor Training

Supervisor Coaching Training

Learn more about the new Supervisor Coaching Training. Registration will open approximately 2 months prior to the first day of training. Register through the Training Portal. Learners must start with Course 1, can take Courses 2-4 in any order, and cannot complete Course 5 until Courses 1-4 are complete.

  • Course 1: August 27 | 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. | Virtual

  • Course 2: September 10 | 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. | Virtual

  • Course 3: September 24 | 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. | Virtual

  • Course 4: October 8 | 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. | Virtual

Orientation to New Supervisor Training (CWTA X300)

This self-paced training is the first course of New Supervisor Training, will take approximately 5.5 hours to complete, and must be completed prior to registration for CWTA X310. Learners will also take the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Assessment and attend a debrief session with a Qualified Administrator.


New Supervisor Training (CWTA X310)

This course is cohort-based, so supervisors will stay with the same group of learners throughout. Supervisors can register once they have completed the Orientation to New Supervisor Training. Registration will open approximately 2 months prior to the first day of training.

SSIS Coffee Talk
Join SSIS User Support and Kasey Volkers of Stearns County for June’s SSIS Coffee Talk: Targeted Case Management (TCM) Tips and Tricks. Tuesday, June 30 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Registration is required.


Qualified Individual Training (CWTA X400)
Training is available to prepare clinicians and community members to become Qualified Individuals (QIs). The next offering of QI Training will be August 5 - 6 . QIs determine whether or not a child’s/youth’s needs can be met within their family or family foster home with community services rather than being placed in a child care institution, known as a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). If you have questions or want to express your interest in participating, email ffpsa.qualifiedindividual.dcyf@state.mn.us.

School Seclusion: Partnering to Support Children

The Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) is hosting a new no-cost webinar opportunity to provide an overview of school seclusion, including what it is, how it's defined and implemented in schools, and the potential impacts on children’s well-being. Participants will explore the role of child welfare workers in situations where seclusion occurs, with an emphasis on supporting children and families in understanding their rights, experiences, and options. Tuesday, August 4 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Registration is required.
