Academy Promotes Learner Feedback and Training Data
The Evaluation and Certification Team at the Training Academy has been busy recently with the development of a new worker certification initiative, beginning in early 2027, as well as analyzing and reporting on the early findings from the newly launched training that is a significant component of the Minnesota African American Family Preservation and Child Welfare Disproportionality Act (MAAFPCWDA) legislation. Because this training is required of all county agency child protection workers and supervisors, demand has been high and courses fill quickly. To accurately reflect those numbers, the Academy has rereleased the training reports for June and July with the most current data. They are also actively working to show learners the importance of their feedback and how this data can lead to better learning experiences in the future. |
Meet Our Regional Trainers
As part of the legislation that led to the creation of the Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy, it was also determined that regional learning centers were to be opened to decentralize training, each with its own dedicated trainer. As a result, in addition to the Twin Cities Metro Learning Center in Roseville, we also have centers in Detroit Lake, Duluth, Marshall, and Owatonna. This training is available for Minnesota professionals identified by law who must make a report if they know or have reason to believe that child maltreatment has occurred. All new child protection workers should plan to take the following courses. Supervisors should assign these courses AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after a new worker's start date to ensure workers complete prerequisites and can enroll in their preferred Foundations cohort. This training is brought to you by the Tribal Training and Certification Partnership (TTCP). You must complete an ICWA/MIFPA 2-Day Training before you can register for New Worker Foundations (CWTA X113) - but update for supervisor training requirements.

Orientation to New Supervisor Training (CWTA X300)
This self-paced training is the first course of New Supervisor Training, will take approximately 5.5 hours to complete, and must be completed prior to registration for CWTA X310. Learners will also take the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Assessment and attend a debrief session with a Qualified Administrator.
New Supervisor Training (CWTA X310)
This course is cohort-based, so supervisors will stay with the same group of learners throughout. Supervisors can register once they have completed the Orientation to New Supervisor Training.
Supervisor Coaching Training
Learn more about the new Supervisor Coaching Training. Register through the Training Portal. Learners must start with Course 1, can take Courses 2-4 in any order, and cannot register for Course 5 until Courses 1-4 are complete.

Qualified Individual Training (CWTA X400)
Training is available to prepare clinicians and community members to become Qualified Individuals (QIs). The next offering of QI Training will be September 15 - 16. QIs determine whether or not a child’s/youth’s needs can be met within their family or family foster home with community services rather than being placed in a child care institution, known as a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). Aligned For Impact Registration is Now Open!
Aligned for Impact: Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration in Child Protection is a newly redesigned, interactive, no-cost, in-person gathering designed to strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration and improve outcomes for children and families. Through facilitated discussions, peer-to-peer learning, and individualized consultation with state and local experts, participants will identify practical strategies that can be applied within their own multidisciplinary teams, tailored to their team's stage of development. Teams and topics include child protection screening and case review teams, investigative teams, domestic violence and trafficking response teams, school partnerships, county/tribal partnerships, and more.
These trainings are designed for professionals who work with child protection multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) or collaborative partnerships, as well as those interested in developing a new team in their community. This course is eligible for social work CEUs, law enforcement POST credits, and continuing legal education (CLE) credits. Learn more and register on our MDT page. |
