  • Cohort 127 | September 17 - November 14 | Virtual (WAITLIST)

If this applies to any of your workers and they are not yet enrolled in

Cohorts 125-127, please have them contact Myrna Klegin at mklegin@umn.edu ASAP. Myrna will help them reschedule. A checklist for supervisors of this current training can be found here

PLEASE NOTE: Cohort 127 is the final cohort of the current Foundations curriculum. Learners who are not able to complete ALL parts of this training will be required to start the new Foundations from the beginning.

New Worker Training: New Curriculum

The updated New Worker Foundations is now ready and available in the Training Catalog. With the exception of new workers finishing the old curriculum (see above), all new child protection workers should plan to take the following courses. Supervisors can use this new checklist to help assign and monitor employee progress:

New Worker Orientation: Self-Paced Modules (CWTA X110)

Ask new workers to finish this course in the first few days on job, and remind them that they cannot register for instructor-led until this is complete. Please note that the final completion grade for this course will take 6-8 business days to post (this includes time for the DEI team to grade all IDI requirements at the end of the course). You will not be able to register for the Instructor-Led Enhancement course until your final completion grade shows up on your training record. Please have your workers plan accordingly.

The Practice Space Podcast

Listen to a brand new podcast that invites us to meet at the intersection of meditation and social work to explore ideas and skills that will help to support us in our professional practice. Child welfare professionals in particular can benefit from these conversations which offer space for reflection on practice and impact of the work on both mind and body.

New Support for Recovery Videos

The first module, New Support for Recovery, discusses a variety of important resources for people in recovery (it is primarily focused on recovery from substance use disorders) including some new and emerging trends. The second module, Medication for Recovery, covers medications to treat opioid-use disorders for training purposes for social workers in child welfare. It reviews the science of how the brain works and then presents the different types of medications that are available. Learn more.
