Training Portal Basics Sessions

Staff from the Training Academy are hosting monthly virtual meetings to demonstrate basic Training Portal skills and take questions to help users better understand how to use our learning management system. MNCWTA Advisory Network

Members provide information on the current trends and challenges facing the child welfare workforce, provide input and feedback on MNCWTA initiatives, and support solutions to enhance training and professional development of the child welfare workforce and foster the development of cultural responsiveness. New Worker Foundations May 2024 Update

Over the next several months we will share updates, such as this latest blog post, about the launch of New Worker Foundations this September. Agency supervisors are invited to a virtual meeting this Monday, May 13 at 1:30 p.m., and look for video updates starting later this month. 


MI Training Initial Implementation Feedback Request

Agency and Tribal leaders/supervisors: All Pathways to Motivational Interviewing (MI) certification are open. As part of the initial implementation of MI training, the Training Academy is looking to gather feedback on the initial MI training implementation. Please share with us your experiences so far to inform how the Training Academy delivers and partners with agencies for optimal implementation. Responses are confidential and your name will not be connected to your responses in any reporting. For additional information regarding motivational interviewing, please contact mitraining@mnchildwelfaretraining.com.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) Skills for Child Welfare Professionals: Skills Demonstration | Pathway 1

In the final course, you will be asked to demonstrate your MI skills through a series of simulated encounters.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) Pathways 2 and 3

In addition to Pathway 1 (made up of the MI courses above), Pathway 2 (for individuals who have already completed MI training) and Pathway 3 (for agencies that want to host their own MI training) are also available. Learn more about these options on our website.

New Worker Training

New Worker Training is only for new county and tribal workers who are involved in child protection, and is assigned by a supervisor or tribal leader through the Training Portal. Participants must be able to attend all dates/times. Remind your employees that they still need to enroll in a course even after you have assigned it to them. Learn more here. The courses above are available for registration through the Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy (MNCWTA) Training Portal. Go to our website, www.mnchildwelfaretraining.com, and then LOGIN (located in the top-right navigation). From there, select the Training Catalog, where you will find course descriptions and links to register.

Need a Training Portal Profile?
Ask your supervisor to invite you. If you are a tribal leader or supervisor, or you do not need a supervisor to assign your trainings, submit the New Profile Request Form. Be sure to use your most up-to-date email and to only use lowercase letters (for both profile requests and invitations). If you have technical issues, submit a ticket here.

Accommodation Requests
If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in a training, contact us as soon as possible at info@mnchildwelfaretraining.com.

Attendance
Learners who miss more than 30 minutes of training will not receive credit. Learners who miss more than 30 minutes of Foundations (new worker) training will need to repeat that specific classroom. If the training takes place over several days, you can only miss 30 minutes total; not 30 minutes per day. Please plan ahead to adjust court dates, on-call shifts, caseload responsibilities, etc.


Registration
In order to receive credit for any MNCWTA course, learners MUST be registered in advance of the start of training. Last minute registrations will not be accommodated due to existing waitlists and training capacity. Learners will not receive credit for attending a course without being on the registration list.

ICAR-8 International Conference on Adoption Research

The International Conference on Adoption Research (ICAR8) is a premier event for attendees from the Global South and Global North who are devoted to ensuring permanent, nurturing family care for every child. The conference is taking place from July 8-12 at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus. Learn more.


PACC 2024-25 Cohorts are Now Open

Permanency and Adoption Competency Certificate (PACC) cohorts are now open with Metro-Hybrid and Fully-Virtual format options. Coursework includes 70+ Social Work CEUs, including Ethics and Cultural Responsiveness, centered by curriculum written and delivered by those with lived experience. Limited scholarship funding is available to Tribal and county child welfare workers (in child protection, foster care, permanency/adoption roles).


Applications are Open for the 2024-25 PLX Cohorts

The Phoenix Learning Exchange (PLX) is offering two cohorts for the upcoming training year: Twin Cities Hybrid and Statewide Virtual. There are limited FREE enrollment spots for Tribal workers or those employed in Tribal or Indigenous organizations. Apply to earn 62.5 CEUs approved by the Board of Social Work while discussing topics of trauma, SUD/MI, identity development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and more!
