June 2024

Welcome to The Acorn! Each month we share the latest trainings and resources available to child welfare professionals throughout Minnesota.

Updates

Foundations Video Update

We have created our first monthly video update for the launch of New Worker Foundations. More videos are coming throughout the summer.

Updates to Child Welfare Response to Trafficking and Exploitation

Effective July 1, 2024, all reports of sex trafficking by non-caregiver and unknown alleged offenders, must be screened in by local welfare agencies for the new non-caregiver trafficking assessment response. Regional in-person trainings are being held throughout the month of June in partnership with Safe Harbor regional navigators. We highly encourage every local welfare agency to send at least one staff to an in-person regional convening if at all possible. Learn more.

Culturally Responsive Training in New Worker Foundations

With the upcoming launch of New Worker Foundations Training, one of the many components is the incorporation of Cultural Responsiveness opportunities for learners to develop their own Cultural Competence. Recently, we asked our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Team several questions that learners will likely want to know.
