Mandated Reporter Training February 2026 Update

Several updates have been made to the current version of Mandated Reporter Training. Policy changes and feedback from subject matter experts have led to content adjustments and improvements. Our Evaluation Team has also compiled a report with the latest feedback from learners. Read more about these exciting developments in our latest Mandated Reporter Training update.


SSIS Essentials Course Updated

An updated version of the SSIS Essentials (CWTA X404) course is now available for child protection workers in the Academy’s Training Catalog. Content has been updated and additional lessons have been added. Learn more about this revised course here.


New Supervisor Training Now Available

Registration is open for New Supervisor Training. Starting 2026, all Minnesota child protection supervisors are welcome to complete the training (but it is only required for supervisors with less than 1 year of experience). The first cohort begins March 3. Register through the Training Academy's Training Portal. 


Supervisor Coaching Coming Soon

The Training Academy is working to schedule pilot training for the soon to launch Supervisor Coaching. If you are interested in being part of the pilot and want to be contacted when registration opens, contact the Academy at info@mnchildwelfaretraining.com.

Mandated Reporter Training

This training is available for Minnesota professionals identified by law who must make a report if they know or have reason to believe that child maltreatment has occurred. This training takes approximately 60 minutes and offers 1.0 CEU. There is also a 15-minute Youth Programs option. Visit our Mandated Reporter Training page to learn more.

New Worker Training

All new child protection workers should plan to take the following courses. Supervisors should assign these courses AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after the new worker's start date to ensure workers complete prerequisites and can enroll in their preferred Foundations cohort. Foster Parent Training

Foster Parent Pre-Service Training

The next offering of Foster Parent Pre-Service Training for resource parents starts on Thursday, March 24 (Cohort 32), and includes four virtual, weekly meetings from 6:00-8:00 p.m., which are supplemented by self-paced modules to be completed before each meeting. Licensors should visit the Training Academy website to learn more about this Foster Parent training option, to see all upcoming cohorts, and to get connected with Foster Parent College.

Orientation to New Supervisor Training (CWTA X300)

This self-paced training is the first course of New Supervisor Training, will take approximately 5.5 hours to complete, and must be completed prior to registration for CWTA X310. Learners will also take the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Assessment and attend a debrief session with a Qualified Administrator.


New Supervisor Training (CWTA X310)

This course will be cohort-based, so supervisors will stay with the same group of learners throughout. Supervisors can register once they have completed the Orientation to New Supervisor Training.

Qualified Individual Training (CWTA X400)
Training is available to prepare clinicians and community members to become Qualified Individuals (QIs). The next offering of QI Training will be April 13-14 . QIs determine whether or not a child’s/youth’s needs can be met within their family or family foster home with community services rather than being placed in a child care institution, known as a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). If you have questions or want to express your interest in participating, email ffpsa.qualifiedindividual.dcyf@state.mn.us.

Title IV-E Director | University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD)

This position is responsible for oversight of the federally funded, state administered Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program including program development and planning, implementation, budgeting, and staff supervision. The position administers the recruitment, retention, graduation and guidance of bachelor's and master's level child welfare scholars into professional work in a public or tribal child welfare agency.  Open until filled.
