News from the Academy

Orientation Enhancement Temporary Pause

Effective immediately, the Training Academy has canceled all upcoming offerings of Orientation Enhancement. Recent policy changes regarding educational neglect need to be updated in the training. For the time being, new workers will not be required to take this course, and will only need to complete the Orientation Self-Paced Modules (CWTA X110), ICWA/MIFPA Foundations (TTCP x101.C), and New Worker Foundations (CWTA X113). The Academy’s curriculum team is working to update the course content, and will provide additional updates once more is known. Mandated Reporter Training

This training is available for Minnesota professionals identified by law who must make a report if they know or have reason to believe that child maltreatment has occurred. This training takes approximately 60 minutes and offers 1.0 CEU. There is also a 15-minute Youth Programs option. Visit our Mandated Reporter Training page to learn more.

New Worker Training

All new child protection workers should plan to take the following courses. Supervisors should assign these courses AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after the new worker's start date to ensure workers complete prerequisites and can enroll in their preferred Foundations cohort. NOTE: New Worker Orientation: Instructor-Led Enhancement (CWTA X111) is currently on hold and not a requirement of New Worker Training.


ICWA/MIFPA Foundations (TTCP x101.C)

This training is brought to you by the Tribal Training and Certification Partnership (TTCP). You must complete an ICWA/MIFPA 2-Day Training before you can register for New Worker Foundations (CWTA X113).

Foster Parent Pre-Service Training

The next offering of Foster Parent Pre-Service Training for resource parents starts on Thursday, January 22 (Cohort 31), and includes four virtual, weekly meetings from 6:00-8:00 p.m., which are supplemented by self-paced modules to be completed before each meeting. Licensors should visit the Training Academy website to learn more about this Foster Parent training option, to see all upcoming cohorts, and to get connected with Foster Parent College.

Qualified Individual Training (CWTA X400)
Training is available to prepare clinicians and community members to become Qualified Individuals (QIs). The next offering of QI Training will be February 11-12. QIs determine whether or not a child’s/youth’s needs can be met within their family or family foster home with community services rather than being placed in a child care institution, known as a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). If you have questions or want to express your interest in participating, email ffpsa.qualifiedindividual.dcyf@state.mn.us.
